800×1280 IPS Portrait Display with 40-Pin MIPI LCD Interface, GT911 Capacitive Touch and OCA Full Bonding
MAXEN introduces the new MX-080FM40KFS-N17-2575 8 inch portrait LCD touch display, developed for embedded equipment requiring a larger vertical user interface. With an 800×1280 IPS display, 400 cd/m² brightness, capacitive touch and OCA full bonding, the module is particularly suitable for face recognition terminals, access control systems and smart security devices.
The portrait screen provides more vertical space for camera-related interfaces, user identification information, verification results and touch controls, making it a practical display option for modern biometric and access control equipment.
Face recognition terminals commonly use a vertically organized interface to combine a live camera area, user information, authentication status and operating controls within the same front panel. The 800×1280 portrait format provides additional vertical screen space for this type of UI while helping the display fit naturally into tall and narrow terminal housings.
For access control devices, the screen can be used to present facial recognition status, employee or visitor information, access results, instructions and touchscreen menu functions. The larger 8 inch active display area also provides more room for interface design than smaller portrait modules, which can be useful for terminals that need to display multiple types of information at the same time.
The LCD module itself provides the display and touch interface for the terminal. Camera selection, biometric recognition, processor platform and recognition software are integrated separately according to the customer's system design.
The 8 inch TFT LCD features an 800×1280 portrait resolution, 400 cd/m² typical brightness and IPS viewing characteristics. The vertical format is well suited to interfaces where information is arranged from top to bottom, including facial images, identity details, verification messages, menus and system status.
IPS technology helps maintain consistent image quality when users view the terminal from different operating positions, making the display suitable for wall-mounted access control devices, reception terminals and other interactive equipment.
The display and touch functions use separate interfaces to the customer's control system. The LCD uses a 40-pin MIPI interface, while the capacitive touch panel uses a GT911 touch controller with I²C communication.
This clearly defined interface structure allows the LCD and touch functions to be integrated with a compatible embedded mainboard according to the customer's hardware design. Pin definition, initialization, timing and system compatibility should be confirmed during project evaluation rather than treated as a plug-and-play connection.
The TFT LCD and capacitive touch panel are assembled using OCA full bonding. By eliminating the air gap between the LCD and touch layers, the bonded structure helps reduce internal reflections and optical parallax while creating a cleaner and more integrated front appearance.
This is particularly useful for face recognition and access control terminals, where the display is often a prominent part of the front enclosure. The G+G touch structure also uses 0.70 mm cover glass with ≥6H surface hardness for additional surface protection.
Although face recognition and access control are key applications for this new portrait display, the same vertical layout can also be used in other embedded and interactive equipment, including:
Different biometric terminals and embedded devices require different screen sizes, resolutions and mechanical dimensions. In addition to this new 8 inch model, MAXEN also offers several smaller portrait LCD touch displays for compact equipment designs.
